An extremely halophilic proteobacterium combines a highly acidic proteome with a low cytoplasmic potassium content

Halophilic archaea accumulate molar concentrations of KCl in their cytoplasm as an osmoprotectant and have evolved highly acidic proteomes that function only at high salinity.
