Detecting Responses to El Nino

In coastal environments, little is known about the in situ bacterial response to prolonged warming and nutrient limitation, as well as its corresponding biogeochemical impacts from an El Nino.

Apomictic Relatives of Switchgrass

Apomixis, or asexual reproduction through seeds, allows the preservation of hybrid vigor across generations and could have tremendous impact on breeding and seed systems if installed in crops. This proposal seeks to sequence multiple apomict genomes to further enable apomixis gene discovery and comparative genomics within the grass family.

SMARTFARM Metagenome Analysis of Nutrient Cycling

The SMARTFARM CSP builds on the ARPA-E Phase I SMARTFARM project, providing a detailed view of the metagenome found in the soil of bioenergy crop production at multiple sites.

Mycorrhizal Fungi for Plant Health

Understanding which species of mycorrhizal fungi are important for plant health by sequencing their expressed RNA.

Establishing a Natural Products Genomics Resource Center

Establishing a genomic data resource for the broader scientific community to enable natural product (NP) discovery, characterization, and development for a range of associated applications.

New Green Genes

Genomics research on unicellular green algae has not yet reached its full potential. This proposal focuses on sequencing genomes from underrepresented green algae groups.

Expanding Genomic Knowledge of Unexplored Cyanobacteria

This proposal focuses on rare cyanobacteria, with the genomic data used for synthetic biology approaches of drug discovery under condition of climate change.
